Dr. Barry W. Smee, President
Barry Smee is a consulting geochemist and geologist based in British Columbia, Canada. He earned a B.Sc. in chemistry and geology from the University of Alberta, and a Ph.D. in geochemistry from the University of New Brunswick under the supervision of Dr. G. J. S. Govett. Barry has worked in academia, government and industry for 43 years, and has operated SAC since 1990. He has promoted the use of Quality Control methods in mineral exploration throughout his career, and specializes in the intelligent use of geochemical methods in covered terrain.
Barry is associated with African Mineral Standards (AMIS) in Johannesburg, CDN Labs in Vancouver, and Target Rocks in Lima who produce Certified Reference Material for the minerals industry. The performance of many of the laboratories throughout the world is continuously evaluated as part of their certification process.

Margaret Fairhurst received a BA in Geology from the University of Minnesota, USA in 1992 and became a Professional Geologist (P.G.) in 2009. She has worked as a geologist in the mineral exploration, environmental and hydrological disciplines for 18 years. Margaret gained experience in quality control/quality assurance (QA/QC) while monitoring a large drilling project in South America.
Margaret has significant laboratory audit and data quality control and quality assurance experience, she is a Competent Person (Base & Precious Metals) and performs laboratory and data base audits and data validation, Standard Certification, and provides onsite sampling and QA/QC process workshops to field geologists and staff.
She has been involved in projects in Alaska, Colorado, South America, Mongolia, Africa and Australia.
Margaret is also involved in development and marketing of the Epslog ‘Wombat’ rock scratcher- A simple and inexpensive method to determine the UCS and Mohr-Coulomb strength envelope for rock compared to traditional Uniaxial Compressive Strength (UCS).
Since 2010, Margaret has been a member of the ASTM International Technical Committee E01 on Analytical Chemistry for Metals, Ores, and Related Materials, is a member of AUSIMM etc.
In addition to her native English, Margaret speaks French and Spanish. Since 2010, she has been president of Alliance Française de la Sunshine Coast (AFSC), Queensland, Australia.
In 2013 Margaret launched the company, Oreval™ , conducting drillsite, geochemical and assay laboratory audits, QA/QC data analysis and is an associated company of Smee & Associates Consulting Ltd.
Dave holds a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Geology from the University of Southampton, England, and an M.Sc., (Geology and Exploration Geochemistry) from the University of British Columbia. He has extensive experience in exploring for both precious and base metal deposits and has worked extensively in both North and South America and Australia. From 1995 to 2002, he was Barrick’s Exploration Manager for Argentina and Chile. In this role he managed exploration in the world class El Indio gold belt including the El Indio and Tambo mines and the supergiant Pascua-Lama high sulphidation deposit. After returning to Canada in 2002 he became Barrick’s Chief Geochemist and was responsible for all aspects of the company’s global geochemical programs.
